Clarification: A Comprehensive Guide to Vape Structure Terminology – A Must-Read for Beginners!
Generally, vape packaging comes with a manual, but these manuals often contain a lot of technical terms. Experienced users can understand them right away, but for beginners, it can be like trying to understand a monk’s riddle. So, today we’ve compiled a list of professional terms related to the structure of vapes, hoping to help everyone. If there’s anything incorrect, feel free to point it out and discuss it!
-
Single Coil
This refers to a vape atomizer that has a single heating coil inside. The term "single coil" is used to describe this setup in English. -
Dual Coils
This refers to an atomizer with two heating coils inside. With the same resistance and output power, two coils working simultaneously generate more vapor. -
Open-Loop Vaping Device
Also known as an Open-pod-system vaping device, this refers to a small vaping device that is refillable and rechargeable. Its key feature is that the oil reservoir and the main body can be separated and detached. -
Closed-Loop Vaping Device
Also known as an all-in-one system, this is a Closed-pod-system vaping device. It is a pre-filled, non-rechargeable disposable vape device, which cannot be disassembled. Once it’s used up, it is discarded. -
Top Fill
Also known as Top Drip, it refers to removing the drip tip from the atomizer and directly filling or dripping vape juice into the oil reservoir from the top. -
Bottom Fill
Also known as Bottom Feed, it refers to a vape mod with a built-in e-liquid bottle inside the device. It uses negative pressure and airflow to press the liquid into the atomizer’s coil through a special mechanism. -
Ceramic Coil
Ceramic coils are a mainstream heating material in vape devices. They have high resistance accuracy, excellent heat conduction properties, and offer better vaporization of e-liquid. Unlike traditional coils that use fiberglass, ceramic coils meet FDA requirements, making them safer and healthier for the body. Ceramic coils are wrapped around a hard oil-conducting body, ensuring more uniform spacing and better contact consistency for stable vapor production. The FEELM ceramic atomizer technology, developed by Micware, is an innovative heating system that combines metal film with ceramic conductors, achieving breakthroughs in material and structural science, representing innovative technology in the vaping industry. FEELM’s metal film design creates an exceptional wide heating surface, allowing for accurate and intelligent temperature control, ensuring immediate vapor production while reducing harmful substances. -
Jet-Style Vape
Also known as a Jet Non-contact Vape, this type of vape delivers e-liquid to the heating element through a jet injection method. It avoids the use of cotton or wicks for filtration, eliminating harmful substances and flavor degradation caused by burning. Jet-style vaping technology is represented by IJET. -
Solid-State Vape
A Solid-State Vape consists of an electronic vaporizer (heating non-burning device) and a solid-state flavoring (non-burning vape pods). It uses a heating method where a metal head heats up to create vapor from the solid flavoring. Solid-state pods are a new type of “heat-not-burn” innovation developed in China. They are different from cigarettes, cigars, or traditional tobacco products and do not use reconstituted tobacco, tobacco paper, or filters. Solid-state vapes are represented by Green Yunda. -
Temperature Control Vape
A Temperature Control vaping device refers to a vape mod that has a temperature control chip. This chip allows users to adjust the battery output to control vapor volume and maintain the battery’s temperature. Temperature control devices also have battery protection features to prevent battery explosion. -
Type-C USB
Also known as USB-C, it is commonly found at the bottom of smartphones and is used for charging and data transfer. The main feature of Type-C is its reversible connector, which solves the problem of misinserting USB cables. It also requires a thinner, more lightweight USB data cable. -
Micro USB
A compact version of USB 2.0, Micro USB is smaller than the Mini USB used in some phones. It is space-efficient and has a lifespan of up to 10,000 insertions. Its main downside is that it only allows insertion in one direction. Most vape devices still use Micro USB for charging. -
Chipset Mods vs. Mechanical Mods
These are two main types of vape mods, differentiated by the way they power the atomizer. The chipset mod consists of a chip, battery compartment, screen, buttons, and casing. It is powered by a lithium-ion battery and allows for voltage adjustments. While it affects power output, it also includes safety features like short-circuit protection, overcharge protection, and temperature control to prevent danger.
The mechanical mod is simpler and usually has a tube or box design made from highly conductive metal. Mechanical mods typically use a single or double lithium battery. However, they are riskier, as they lack safety protection, and users need to understand basic circuit knowledge to avoid potential dangers like short circuits or over-discharge. -
Voltage-Regulated Mod
The Voltage-Regulated Mod often comes in a box form and is called a “box mod” by users. It adjusts output power through voltage control and often includes additional modes like temperature control and curve modes. -
Single vs. Dual Battery
A common question among beginners is whether to choose a single-battery or dual-battery mod. There’s a misconception that a single-battery mod cannot produce large vapor clouds. However, mechanical mods also typically use a single battery, so a single-battery regulated mod can still produce large clouds, as long as the design is appropriate. -
RBA Atomizer
An RBA (Rebuildable Atomizer) is a type of DIY atomizer where users can build their own coils and cotton. Any atomizer that allows users to install their own coil and wick is considered an RBA. -
Pre-Built Atomizer
When beginners first start with vaping, they usually begin with pre-built atomizers, as they are easy to use. Each pre-built atomizer comes with a matching pre-built coil, which users can replace as needed. The coil’s resistance usually ranges from 0.2 to 1.6 ohms. Pre-built atomizers are typically upright designs, with a coil wrapped in cotton, producing moderate vapor. Larger pre-built atomizers, designed for higher power mods, may have one or more coils, with larger vapor output. However, the most common pre-built atomizer typically has a resistance around 0.3 ohms and works well with mods under 75W. -
Vape Kit
A Vape Kit refers to a complete set sold by vape brands, including both the atomizer and the mod/battery. These kits are ideal for beginners who may not know how to choose equipment, as they are ready to use once e-liquid is added. If the kit doesn’t include a battery mod, users will need to buy batteries separately. -
“EGO” Vape
The “EGO” Vape is a type of vape kit with a very typical structure, consisting of an atomizer and a battery. The main advantages of the EGO vape are its portability, ease of use, and convenience. However, it has some drawbacks: the atomizer design leads to poor e-liquid efficiency, and the battery life is low, often only a few hundred or a thousand mAh, making it unsuitable for heavy users. Additionally, due to its low production cost, some vendors market it as a "cloud chaser" or "quit smoking miracle," often selling it at a significant markup to novice users. -
“Flavor” vs. “Cloud”
Atomizers can be classified as either “flavor” or “cloud” types, in addition to being categorized by coil type (pre-built vs. RBA). Flavor-type atomizers are designed to enhance flavor and are ideal for those who want to use vapes as a smoking alternative. Cloud-type atomizers are built to produce large vapor clouds, and they are one of the many ways to experience vaping. Both pre-built and RBA atomizers can be either flavor- or cloud-oriented. Flavor-type atomizers usually consume less e-liquid than cloud-type ones (pre-built atomizers tend to use less e-liquid than RBAs).
Currently, some atomizers are considered “all-in-one” models, allowing users to switch between flavor and cloud options by changing the pre-built coils. Some even come with an RBA base, offering a comprehensive vaping experience.
